Christo Redemptor Retablo (Detail)
Primacolor pencils
22"x 30"
1996

Primacolors on black foam core.
Always fascinated with 19th century Mexican artist Jose Guadalupe Posada and the retablos painted on tin, and old crude wooden crucifixes that occupied humble homes.
This is a detail of a drawing that spanned several years.
I started it in 1996 when I moved back to Texas and then dragged it around with me to upstate New York, Florida and finally back again to N. California where I kind of sorta finished it in 2006. Eventually, I gave to my sister-in-law, in part because of the loss of her husband and my best friend and brother, Michael. We've not gotten over his passing.
